Suggestions for our first READ

Hi everyone!

I've been busy browsing the local B&N, and the ALA site for possible titles for our first read...here's a few we could discuss:

Suzanne Fisher Staples' Under the Persimmon Tree
Cynthia Kadohata's Kira-Kira
Kate DiCamillo's The Tale of Despereaux
Marlene Carrell's Sweetgrass Basket

I hope everyone will throw some titles out as suggestions...some of these are award winners, and others are highly recommended, which always makes me curious about why they are so highly praised. Check out these titles (reviews at amazon.com are the best, especially when kids write good reviews), and post some of your own interests...we'll debate over them here, and then come to an agreement! Put your best arguments here!

Hopefully we can settle on a title by the last week of class so we can all meet once to discuss how we're going to handle the meetings! Any ideas?! Please share them!!
